It's budget season, baby. Here's how to fill your pipeline for 2025 🤑

We're getting to that time of year when businesses start to slow down and wrap things up for the year.

Or as I like to think of it, BUDGET SEASON!

I love this time of year, because there's a pattern I've noticed in my years as a freelancer.

Just when I think I've landed all the contracts I can for the year, I start to get emails from former and current clients, or people who've been quietly following me.

They all want projects to start ASAP, before the year ends.

What gives? There are a few reasons for this trend:

💸 The tax year is ending and people want to get rid of their extra spend to reduce their tax bill for the year.

Time is running out for the goals and missions people set this year, or maybe they have to spend their budget any remaining budget they have before January 1.

🗓️ A new year is coming and ambitious clients want to get ahead on their work for 2025.

👆 For a freelancer like me, this all translates into golden opportunities. It's kind of like a holiday bonus, since no one pays my holiday bonuses anymore except me.🥲

It took me a couple years to recognize this end-of-year pattern, but now that I know about it, I do a few things to position myself as the ideal place for clients with budget to burn.

If you're a freelancer, I recommend doing what I do:

  1. Reach out to old and current clients and ask what they want to achieve by the end of the year.
  2. Consider putting together some sort of holiday offer for clients.
  3. Ramp up your marketing---extra posts on LinkedIn, a couple more newsletters, a few more threads on Bluesky to garner attention, etc..

Now is the time to put more effort into bringing in leads, because by January, much of their excess budget will be gone.
